I've been searching for a permanent position for a number of years now. Have always taken on contract jobs, but since the downturn in the economy even they dried up.
Over the years I have heard countless excuses, but today's phone discussion with a recruiter finally pushed me towards blogging about it.
At times I will regress and mention meetings, phone discussions that have taken place over the days, weeks, months, years.
Last week I applied for a basic admin position through a recruitment agency, the duties listed were very basic, even a school leaver with good computer skills would be able to handle them. The recruiter stated that this particular position pays $75K plus super.
When she rang today to 'see what I want in a job' [sic] as with all call backs there is a small glimmer of hope that may be this time I'll get a job,,
Consultant started telling me that I don't have current office skills and that she has 'better' candidates (just out of a job, or will be in a week or two) that will suit clients needs more.
I asked her what current office skills are, as all agencies provide a service where you can polish your computer skills. She said ' I'm not saying that you don't have the skills, nor that you haven't worked in corporate environment, I can see in your CV that you have' [sic]
Then she proceeded to tel me that if I wish she will put me forward, then in the next breath told me that she will keep my documents on file.
Calls like these aren't unusual, even rejection emails are more often then not are a contradiction.
